LISTING: R&D Chemist

Under minimal supervision, the chemist is responsible for the design, planning and development of new products, which fulfill the objectives of New Product Concepts submitted to the Research and Development Department. The chemist is also expected to apply the appropriate procedures and/or application testing to assess the appropriateness of the new products to applicable test methods and specifications. The position also involves providing technical assistance to Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Purchasing Departments.
Develop new and modify existing products and services of core competency, based on W.R. MEADOWS “New Product Development Process” and “Technical Requests”.
Generate new ideas and products for commercial applications by visiting customers, Department of Transportation, and networking with Sales and Marketing associates.
Identify and communicate new opportunities and improve existing products and processes both within the current manufacturing environment of W.R. MEADOWS and with end use customers.
Respond to customer complaints in a timely manner.
Work to resolve current or potential product or process issues at all W.R. MEADOWS locations.
Understand and improve existing products, processes and technologies.
Ensure products, technologies, and services meet use requirements of customers.
Actively participate in ASTM committees.
Accompany Sales and Marketing associates to visit customers and on initial field trials.
Ensure products and technologies are compatible with manufacturing standards and are in compliance with environmental regulations.
Maintain product information, raw material specifications, MSDS and testing procedures.
Ensure all experiments and technologies comply with safe laboratory practices and standards.
Emulate the high WRM standards for Quality, Integrity, and Service.
Visit and communicate with customers and branch locations and the business communities within which the company operates.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good communication (written and oral) and documentation skills.
Strong project management and problem solving skills.
Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry and understanding of construction industry trends and standards required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science with 2-5 years of experience in the construction chemicals industry or MSC degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science with 5-10 years of experience in the construction chemicals industry or BSC degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science with 10-15 years’ experience in relevant industry.
